Cervenka is best known as the lead singer for the band “X”, one of the leaders of the late-'70s/early-'80s California punk explosion. But she is so much more...In addition to her release of several solo recordings, Exene has appeared in bands including “The Knitters”, “Original Sinners”...She has issued several books including “Just Another War” (a collaboration with Pulitzer Prize-nominated photojournalist Kenneth Jarecke). She continues to donated her time and talents to so many important causes. (she is also an activist, a mother, and just a doggone cool human)
This year, Exene and Michelle collaborated on a song titled “Following Orders”, and we are happy to have her at the Mirage in April.

The Deepwater Horizon oil well has been filled with cement and millions of gallons of oil are no longer gushing into the Gulf of Mexico. It is with cautious optimism that we, Be Part of the Solution, rejoice at this fact. Now, the real work of rebuilding lives, communities, and the life - sustaining waters of the Gulf Coast must begin in earnest.
To assist in these efforts, Be Part of the Solution - a coalition of friends, musicians, and advocates have banned together with the United Way of Greater New Orleans to host a day of benefit concerts at The Howlin' Wolf and Howlin' Wolf Den in the Warehouse District of New Orleans.
Additionally, Be Part of the Solution will be working with The Roots of Music, an organization aimed at enriching the lives of children with the gifts of music, culture, and values. The Roots of Music provides music education in history, theory, instrumental instruction, and ensemble performance. Furthermore, academic tutoring is offered to ensure the students maintain at least a 2.5 GPA in school.
All proceeds from warehouseFest 2010 will benefit both the United Way for Greater New Orleans and The Roots of Music organization.

Did you know that August 25th is CitizenEffect’s National Day of Action? We didn’t either til yesterday when we decided to support the Gulf Coast benefit in Santa Monica. Come see Michelle perform “The Edge of Madness” at this cool event!
Leading social media marketing agency DEI Worldwide is taking ‘action’ by sponsoring a charity event to benefit the Citizen Gulf Project in celebration of the CitizenEffect’s National Day of Action. All donations from the benefit will go toward the fishing families’ children that have been affected by the oil spill. The funds will be used for school supplies, uniforms, enrichment classes, and recreational activities.
Scheduled for Wednesday, August 25th at 7:30 p.m., the charity event will take place in Santa Monica at the Sulkin Secant Gallery located at 2525 Michigan Avenue at the Bergamot Station. There will be special guests including, Jeff Sulkin who will speak about the oil spill’s environmental impact, and live music from local artists.
Each person who purchases a ticket to the event, which ranges in price from $10 - $500, will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win one of several gift bags. Food and drinks will also be served.
